The Arizona State University Chess Club held its October Open on October 21st. A number of top rated players came out to battle. The Game 45m + 5s tournament launched at 9am at the Memorial Union in the heart of the ASU campus, surrounded by parking and restaurants. Plenty of seating nearby for anxious parents. The event has a low entry fee of only $15 dollars and the proceeds go to the ASU Chess Club for their college events.
Another successful FIDE Chess Tournament in Arizona!
Once again, thanks to all of you for participating in the 2023 October FIDE Classic and Blitz tournaments. 81 players played in the Classic tournament (including seven out-of-state players) and 20 for the Blitz. These are excellent turnouts for both these events, especially given all the conflicting school activities this time of year.
It was another great tournament from Rising Star Chess. Buddy Thompson filled in for Rick Smouse for this Rising Star Tournament and Molly McCoy was the TD.
The Doubletree Hilton Mesa is one of our favorite chess tournament venues. It is a quiet venue and there are plenty of spaces for people to sit.
