Date Change for the next Rising Star FIDE Classic and Blitz
Hello Southwest Chess Players!
We need to let everyone know that we’ve had to change the date for the next Rising Star FIDE Classic and Blitz to January 13 -15, 2024 (Martin Luther King Holiday weekend).
Due to venue availability constraints, the Arizona State Grades tournament, normally held in mid-January each year, had to be scheduled for Feb 17th this year, directly conflicting with the Rising Star FIDE Classic and Blitz. Fortunately, the DoubleTree Hotel was able to accommodate our request to move the FIDE Classic and Blitz to Martin Luther King Weekend.
The Arizona State Grades is a critical tournament for Arizona scholastic players and we’re happy to see that a 2024 edition will be held. We encourage all scholastic players to play in the event and to make sure to thank the good folks at Arizona Chess Central for hosting the tournament.
We’re also happy to announce that moving the Rising Star FIDE Classic to MLK Holiday weekend has freed up our February schedule so that we can host an additional February Rising Star FIDE Rapid tournament on Feb 3, 2024.
